Biography

For as long as I can remember I have been interested in the natural world and started studying insects and birds at an early age. Growing up in New York, I was a member and past President of the Jr. Entomological Society of N.Y., sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History. The inspiration provided at the museum by some of the country’s leading natural scientists has had a profound effect on me to this day.

I have been involved in the collection and study of insects for scientific study for over forty years and I am currently a Research Associate of the Florida State Collection of Arthropods and a member of the Minnesota Ornithologists Union. The author of several journal articles on insects and birds, my photographs appear in many journals and books, such as The National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Butterflies.

For the last Twenty years I have lived in Minnesota with my wife Deborah. Recent projects include photographing the birds of Minnesota and documenting the Cicindelidae (tiger beetles) of Costa Rica through digital photography.

Most of my earlier work was done with the Olympus OM film system. Presently I am using Canon digital cameras and lenses.
